It's showtime!!!

After weeks of preparation, rehearsing and endless practice we proudly performed our Year 6 production of Madagascar. At the beginning of the week we spent the day at Headgate Theatre ahead of performance night (s). This visit helped prepare us for the real thing - we need not have worried as both evenings were a complete success. The show (s) went ahead without a hitch; the audience were nearly falling out of their seats with laughter and the theatre was filled with raptuous applause.

Along with the roaring success of our  production we had fun creating our own black out poems. This is where we are given a text and then we highlight word, phrases, sentences to create a poem. You can be as creative as you like!

This week was full steam ahead the production; we delivered a successful dressed rehearsal to the whole school on Thursday and Friday. Knowing that we have the ability to perform in front of a large audience has done wonders for our confidence. We're now looking forward to heading to Headgate Theatre next week!

After making our metal flower sculpture last week each class decorated a plant pot and created our very own art installation - we are delighted with the result.

In English we had fun writing a Squiggle story; it's exactly as it sounds! We draw a squiggle and then plan & write a story around the squiggle, It required lots of imagination and creativity.

This week we made the most of the weather, getting outside to take part in a range of PE activities including relay and shot put. We also enjoyed making flower sculptures from wire as part of Art Week. We're looking forward to displaying them at Open Classroom next week.

Rehearsals are going really well; most of the cast are now no longer needing to read from the script. The prop team have done an outstanding job with the props which we hope to begin to use next week.

This week we have enjoyed the sunshine, making the most of our wonderful outdoor space. As part of PE we prepared for Sports Day which took place on Thursday. We practised relay races, egg and spoon alongwith the three legged race. We all had a wonderful day taking part and although winning is not the most important thing a big well done goes to Donaldson house who came first.

In Science we carried out an experiment to discover how sound vibrates - we used a drum and a handful of rice and made a note of the result. We discovered that sound creates a vibration as when we hit the drum the pieces of rice began to move. .

In English we enjoyed creating our own book cover and blurb whilst in Maths we developed our calculator skills;  we were amazed at how many words we could make on the calculator:) Why not try this at home yourself!

Rehearsals are now well underway for our end of year production of  Madagascar, the children are doing a great job of learning their lines and the behind the scenes team are busy making props. In English we finished writing a guide and moved on to a quest story where our focus is including dialogue to move on the action.

The most exciting thing which happened this week has to be our Colour Run, where we were not only covered in colour powder but was drenched with water too! The best thing is that we were sponsored so we raised money while we had fun :)

So Half Term came and went and we're back with a bang! There was no time to waste as two thirds of Year 6 set off on their Residential trip to Bawdsey Manor while a third of the year group stayed back at school to enjoy a fabulous week of fun actviities.

We couldn't have had a better start to the second half of the Summer Term :)

You can find more photos of our trip to Bawdsey Manor in the Curriculum tab on the website under Bawdsey Manor.
