Friday 4th July

We’ve had a wonderful week in Year 5 and can hardly believe how quickly the end of the school year is approaching! The children continue to impress us with their enthusiasm and hard work.

In Maths, we’ve been learning how to convert between different units of measurement, including length, mass, and capacity. The children have practised applying these skills to real-life problems and have shown great perseverance.

In Science, we’ve been exploring the human life cycle, looking at how people grow and change from birth through to old age. The children have asked thoughtful questions and shared some excellent observations.

In Geography, we’ve been studying the physical features of the UK, using maps and atlases to locate mountain ranges, rivers and coastal areas. The class has enjoyed discovering how these features shape our environment and way of life.

We’re looking forward to making the most of our final weeks in Year 5!

Friday 27th June

Year 5 have thoroughly enjoyed making the most of the warmer weather this term, especially during our exciting trip to the Mersea Outdoor Activity Centre. The children showed incredible bravery and teamwork as they took part in caving, zip lining, high ropes, and rock climbing. It was a fantastic day filled with adventure and lots of fun!

Back in school, our afternoons have been dedicated to Art Week. The children have been busy creating impressive sculptures using foil and wire, developing both their creativity and fine motor skills. We’re very proud of their work, and we look forward to showcasing their sculptures in the classrooms during our Open Day on Thursday. We hope to see you there!

This week has been full of excitement and learning in Year 5. The children showed fantastic team spirit and determination during Sports Day – they really enjoyed the day, even in the heat! In PE, we’ve been perfecting our throwing skills, and it’s been great to see everyone’s progress.

In English, we’ve been working hard on rehearsing our text map for our new unit, Dobber and the Ring. The children have enjoyed getting to know the story and are already showing great enthusiasm for the unit ahead.

In RE, we have started exploring the fascinating world of Hinduism. The class has been busy researching different Hindu gods and learning about their unique characteristics and stories.

Well done to everyone for a fantastic week – we’re proud of your hard work and positive attitudes!

It’s been another exciting and productive week in Year 5 as we dive back into the term with great energy and enthusiasm!

In Art, we’ve been exploring mosaic tile artwork, taking inspiration from the beauty of nature. The students are enjoying experimenting with patterns and colour to create their own stunning designs.

In Geography, we've launched our new topic: The Great Outdoors. The children are learning how to use compasses and are beginning to recognise and understand key map symbols—essential skills for budding explorers!

Meanwhile in PE, we’ve started an exciting unit on Athletics. Pupils are trying out a range of disciplines, including sprinting and various throwing sports, discovering their strengths and building teamwork and technique along the way.

As always, it’s been a busy and rewarding week for Year 5!
